Research activities
The research activities of Charis Gantes are in the field of behavior, analysis and design of steel structures, with emphasis on problems of geometrically and material nonlinear behavior, aiming at evaluating the ultimate strength of members, connections and structures. For that he is combining numerical, experimental and analytical methods. Objective of his research efforts is to contribute towards the solution of actual problems of the structural engineering community and the improvement of design methods and associated code provisions, with the ultimate goal to achieve safer, more cost effective and more beautiful structures. In parallel, he considers research as a valuable educational tool for young engineers in their quest for better solutions and their familiarization with the treatment of complex problems, which has significant benefits, even for those who will not becme active researchers in their future professional life.
