Design and consulting activities

After returning to Greece from the United States, between 1991 and 1994 C. Gantes worked as free-lance consulting engineer, with his main activity being on the design and supervision of construction of private buildings. In parallel, he was an external collaborator of "Attiko Metro", the company supervising the design and construction of the Athens subway, as structural design checker of temporary and permanent structures of stations and tunnels.

Since 1994, when he joined the N.T.U.A. faculty, he collaborates with government agencies, design offices and construction companies in Greece and abroad for structural consulting and design of a variety of projects including:

  • Steel and reinforced concrete buildings
  • Condition assessment and strengthening of old steel, reinforced concrete and masonry structures
  • Large-span steel structures for athletic, industrial and commercial facilities
  • Power plant and waste treatment plant structures and other energy related industrial facilities
  • Wind turbine towers and foundation
  • Buried pipelines transporting oil and natural gas
  • Port and marine facilities
  • Guyed towers
  • Temporary bracing for deep excavations
  • Structures for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games
  • Highway infrastructure projects including structures for "Attiki Odos", the Athens peripheral highway
  • Underground structures including tunnels and stations for "Attiko Metro", the Athens subway

He is also participating in expert committees for the resolution of technical differences.

He contributes towards the improvement of know-how of Greek structural engineers, by participating in working groups for the development of structural design codes and in continuing education seminars.
