Seminars

(using the libray - information searching - searching the Web)


  • The Town Academic Library supports the pursuit of excellence in learning, teaching and research by ensuring that its information resources are appropriate to the University’s strategies.
  • It should ensure that students and staff and all University members are equipped with the information skills to make best use of the information resources provided.
  • For this purpose there are seminars held by the Town Unversity Academic Library at the dates and time specified by the library at the beginning of every semester.
  • The seminars take place within the library building in the "Multimedia and Seminar Room" which is situated in the Ground Floor.
  • Attendance is allowed to all Town University members, provided they have previously registered for.
  • Registration forms can be found in the Library's Enquiries Desk, or they can be found on the Library's Web Site and can be completed and sent on-line (see below).

 

Seminar 1: Using the Library
Duration: 1h and 15 minutes

Aim:

This is an introductory seminar which aims to give the library's users a general description of all the library's resources and facilities. Users will also be informed of the library's rules, policies and aims. Another part of the seminar will be to make students aware of the very basic skills of searching for books and journals in the library's catalogue. Finally, there wil be given a presentation on the Town Academic Library role as an integrated part of the the Town University realm of activities.

Seminar 2: Information Searching
Duration: 1h and 15 minutes

Aim:

This is a seminar which aims to provide the library's users with useful guidelines on searching information in the library's catalogue and in the library's electronic resources. Firstly, there will be discussed some ways on how to determine what kind and how much information is needed when users search for a subject. Secondly, there will take place some search examples. Lastly, there will be given some guidelines on how to evaluate the information resources they use.

Seminar 3: Searching the Web
Duration: 1h and 15 minutes

Aim:

This seminar aims to give the library's users a general idea of what the World Wide Web is, and how users can benefit the most from it, when searching for information. Users will also be informed about how to best use search and meta search engines and how to evaluate a Web source.
