Seminar 2: Information Searching

Duration: 1h and 15 minutes

Aim:

This is a seminar which aims to provide the library's users with useful guidelines on searching information in the library's catalogue and in the library's electronic resources. Firstly, there will be discussed some ways on how to determine what kind and how much information is needed when users search for a subject. Secondly, there will take place some search examples. Lastly, there will be given some guidelines on how to evaluate the information resources they use.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the seminar attendants will:

have learnt how to determine their information needs
have obtained the appropriate skills to search the Town Library Catalogue using all possible ways
have obtained some general experience on how to search the library's electronic resources
have a general idea on how to evaluate an information resource

Learning Methods:

During the seminar there will take place a presentation on the library's resources and a more analytical discussion on the subjects mentioned above. Users will also be asked to take a searching exercise. Lastly, there will be given time for questions and feedback. A combination of multimedia will be used and attendants will be encouraged to interact with in order benefit the maximum from what they are presented with.
