Bond behaviour of light and heavy carbon fibre TRM to masonry interfaces

We present the results of an experimental campaign on the bond behaviour between carbon fibre textile reinforced mortars and masonry substrate. The results highlight the beneficial effect of the epoxy resin coating that practically doubles the maximum attained loads. This increase is shown to be associated to a consistent shift of the failure mode from textile slippage to detachment at the matrix to matrix interface.

Resolving vibro-acoustics in poroelastic media via a multiscale virtual element method

We introduce a novel heterogeneous multi-scale method for the frequency response analysis of waves propagating in porous domains with a complex micro-structure. In this, the domain is decomposed onto polygonal coarse elements each clustering its local micro-structure.

Condensed finite element scheme for symmetric multi-layer structures including dilatational motion

We develop a finite element scheme to compute vibro-acoustic quantities from the condensed layer with these three dynamic parameters. It is further showed that the proposed scheme has high computational gain over the conventional full three-dimensional finite element approach.

Virtual elements for sound propagation in complex poroelastic media

We introduce a novel Virtual Element Method that resolves waves propagating in highly tesellated poroelastic domains. The projection operators corresponding to the solid, fluid, and coupling phases are establshed and discussed. A node insertion strategy is also proposed to resolve non-conforming interfaces that naturally arise in multilayered systems.

A numerical investigation of tsunamis impacting dams

We investigate the effects of tsunamis on rigid dams through numerical simulation in 2D and 3D and provide a new set of rigorous empirical equations to quantify the wave run-up height, together with the overtopping volume and depth. Novel insight on the build up of dynamic pressures also supported by new semi-empirical equations.

Multiscale VEM for the Biot consolidation analysis of complex and highly heterogeneous domains

We introduce a novel heterogeneous multi-scale method for the consolidation analysis of two-dimensional porous domains with a complex micro-structure. A two-scale strategy is implemented wherein an arbitrary polygonal domain can be discretized into clusters of polygonal elements, each with its own set of fine scale discretization.

Strengthening of RC frame subassemblies against progressive collapse using TRM and NSM reinforcement

The performance of strengthened RC subassemblies against progressive collapse is experimentally quantified. We find that, if properly designed, NSM and TRM techniques can double the compressive arch action of RC frame subassemblies subjected to a centre column loss.
