Dr. Nikos Lagaros serves as Vice-Rector for Finance, Infrastructure, and Development at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and is a Professor of Structural Optimization at the Institute of Structural Analysis and Antiseismic Research within the School of Civil Engineering. From September 2018 to November 2023, he held the position of Dean of the School of Civil Engineering. At NTUA, he teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, including: Structural Analysis of Statically Indeterminate Structures, Nonlinear Structural Analysis, Computer-Based Solution Methods, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Optimization and Machine Learning, Computer Programming and Artificial Intelligence, Optimization in Engineering, Structural Optimization.

His research activities focus on a broad range of topics in structural and earthquake engineering, including: Nonlinear dynamic analysis of concrete and steel structures under seismic loading; Performance-based earthquake engineering; Structural design optimization; Seismic risk and reliability analysis; AI and ML in structural engineering; Fragility assessment of structural systems; Inverse problems; Evolutionary computation methods

Consultant, (1999-present)               
Dr. Lagaros provides consulting, peer-review, and expert-witness services for private firms and government agencies in Greece. His consultancy work focuses on post-earthquake damage assessment of buildings and the development of structural analysis and design software.
