Accessibility
This website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What the site does
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and a link that skips straight to the content.
- Text and interface colours are chosen for strong contrast against the dark background, and gold is reserved for accents rather than body text.
- Animations are switched off when your device is set to reduce motion.
- Pages use semantic headings, landmarks and labelled controls, so that screen-reader users can move through them easily.
- Text can be enlarged to 200 per cent without loss of content, and layouts adapt to narrow screens.
- The search panel opens with Ctrl K (⌘K on a Mac) or the slash key, and works entirely from the keyboard: the arrow keys move through results, Enter opens one and Escape closes the panel.
- On phones, buttons, filters and links are enlarged for touch, well above the 24-pixel minimum in WCAG 2.2, and the menu opens as a full-screen panel.
Known limitations
Book cover images come from the publisher. Each has alternative text giving the book's title, but the other text printed on the covers is not available to screen readers. Where a cover has not yet been released, a text plate with the title is shown instead. Linked publisher and repository pages are outside the control of this site and may not meet the same standard.
