Constantine D. Memos - Teaching
 

Dr Memos has been delivering term-lectures on the following subjects, to students of the 5-year study-cycle leading to the MEng degree, of the Civil and Geosciences Engineering Schools of the National Technical University of Athens (1979-2013):

  • Port systems: operations and planning
  • Fluid mechanics
  • Hydraulics
  • Maritime hydraulics and harbour structures
  • Unsteady flows
  • Free-surface flows
  • Topics of port engineering

He also led the following courses in the MSc programme ‘Science and Technology of Water Resources’ of NTUA, study path ‘Management of Coastal Zone and Ports’ (1999-todate):

  • Maritime hydrodynamics
  • Design of sea outfalls
  • Offshore works
  • Port design and operations
  • Computational methods in coastal engineering
  • Integrated coastal zone management
  • The ports system
  • Port and coastal structures

As NTUA staff he spent his sabbatical leave at:

  • Imperial College, London, for six months (1989-90)
  • State Laboratory for Ports and Coasts-CEDEX, Madrid, for four months (2008-09)
  • TU Delft, The Netherlands, for four months (2009)

Additionally, Dr Memos offered lecturing outside NTUA, as noted below:

  • Led the course Design of sea outfalls, as visiting Professor to the Athens Public Health School (1986-1994)
  • Delivered lectures on Coastal Engineering to Imperial College civil engineering MEng students, in the framework of the Socrates EU Programme (1999-2001)
  • Presented a short course on Port Planning and Design in the Wessex Institute of Technology, Southampton (2000)
  • Gave lectures on Port Engineering to civil engineering students and staff of the Bucharest Technical University, in the framework of ERASMUS EU Programme (2004-2008)
  • Lectured and developed teaching material for Coastal Erosion Management in the E-ducate! transbalkan postgraduate programme.

Dr Memos was extensively involved (1997-2011) in the development of the Greek Open University, specifically of the postgraduate programme “Design of Sustainable Infrastructure”. He participated in its curriculum design; reviewed and prepared teaching material; coordinated academic staff; held the position of academic head of that programme since 2004.
