Born in Athens in 1944. He obtained his Diploma in Civil Engineering in 1967 and his Doctorate in 1986 from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) with the Thesis "A Method for the Static and Dynamic Analysis of shallow shells with rectangular base". He subsequently attended a postgraduate course in Bridge Engineering and Prestressed Structures at the Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich (ETH) and obtained his diploma in 1989. He is currently Professor of Structural Engineering at NTUA where he teaches Structural Analysis, Bridge Engineering and Structural Behaviour and Design at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He writes and speaks fluently French, English and German.

His publications in international scientific journals cover a wide range of topics related with static and dynamic analyses of orthotropic plates and shallow shells, prestressed cable structures, structural behaviour of multistorey buildings, dynamic behaviour of curved thin walled beams, soil-structure interaction problems, the treatment of partial prestressing in slab bridges, as well as prestressed foundation beams and the behaviour of suspension and stress ribbon bridges.

Active over more than 35 years as a Structural Engineering Consultant in various design projects including multistorey buildings, prestressed concrete bridges, space covering roofs and special foundations.
