My main areas of activities in Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering include:

  • Usage and applications of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) for
    • GPS modeling for various applications requiring the establishment of precise geodetic networks for various purposes, spatial scales and levels of accuracy. Sub-urban and urban geodetic control networks, refererence systems implementation.
    • Aerotringulations and precise determination of photo control points with GPS, GPS-assisted airborne mapping operations.
    • Kinematic applications for surveys and transportation, registration of utilities assets.
    • Establishment of continuously operating stations and use of modern Virtual Reference Networks. RTK and VRS surveying operations. Quality assurance of VRS data.
  • Advanced modelling and usage of satellite geodetic observations (e.g. GPS, SLR, VLBI, etc.) for geodetic applications demanding ultra high accuracies (e.g. tectonic movements and monitoring, deformations of engineering structures, etc.).
  • Usage of state-of-the art radio-navigation techniques and equipment. Modelling of static, kinematic and dynamic GPS observations for real-time navigation applications. Implementation and operation of DGPS for hydrographic surveys.
  • Full integration of various satellite-based systems and location sensors with telecommunications (e.g. wireless internet) and Geographic Information Systems, particularly in the context of implementing Location Based Services applications of exchanging geographical information of dynamic content.
  • Visualization of spatial and thematic information. Use of multimedia and Web Service tools for building user-friendly knowledge databases, managing spatial data, maps and other digital content in Digital Libraries.
  • Satellite altimetry applications in oceanography (mean sea level studies, oceanic geoid, etc.) using radar and laser altimetry measurements from TOPEX/Poseidon, JASON-1, ENVISAT, ICESat etc.
  • Web-based delivery of maps and other spatial data products through the usage of openly accessible or subsidized satellite earth observation data and imagery. Implementing strategies for wider use of earth observation technologies, including satellite remote sensing, global mapping and geographic information systems, to collect quality data on environmental impacts, land use and land-use changes.
  • Studies focussing on all aspects of spatial data accuracy, including modeling and communications uncertainty, decision making under terms of spatial uncertainty and management of data quality information for the Hellenic Cadastre. Application of Total Quality Management (TQM) principles in the activities and provision of services relating to the HEPOS-based and other Hellenic Cadastre-related geospatial data. Cadastre data and the WWW. Use of GPS measurements as legally recognized and acceptable methodology for the implementation and recovery of property boundaries.
