Born in Athens in 1967. Received the "Diploma in Engineering" degree and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), in 1991 and 1996 respectively. He holds a position of Associate Professor in Geo-Information Systems and Software Engineering at the School of Surveying Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens.
He has a 15-year experience in curriculum design and teaching of graduate and post-graduate courses at the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Piraeus, the Hellenic Open University, the National Public Administration School of Greece and elsewhere. He is among the referees and scientific committees of international journals and conferences, including "IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering" and "ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology". Authored more than 70 research articles in books, journals and conferences, including textbooks and lecture notes currently used as course material of Software Engineering in Greek Universities.
Co-founder of a software development company where he worked as software engineer until 1991. Worked for large organizations in the public and private sectors in Greece including NTUA Rector offices and CEDEFOP as independent expert consultant in Information Systems design and Quality Assurance, including Engineering Education strategy.
His professional interests include modeling and decision support in multi-hazard crisis management, cascading effects modeling and loss assessment, strategic planning in information systems, geo-information infrastructures, interoperability and spatial analytics.
His research interests include distributed and heterogeneous geo-information systems, integrated simulation and combinatorial optimization in operational problems, inter-disciplinary approach of multi-hazards and cascading effects on systems and networks, open geospatial data, multi-dimensional analytics in spatial and operational problems.
Member of IEEE, ACM, the Technical Chamber of Greece and other associations. Founding member & member of the Board of the Greek chapter of Open Knowledge International. Fluent in Greek (mother tongue), English (C2) and Italian (C1), basic knowledge of French (B2) and German (B1).
