Content

The course deals with the technology and the programming of modern machine tools, thus: Basic concepts of programmable manufacturing systems (structure of CNC machine tools, interpolation, adaptive control, machine tool cells and their controllers). G-code programming for machining and turning centers (coordinate systems, compensation, basic moves, M-commands). CAM for cutting processes in machining and turning centers, sheet metal bending and punching centers etc. (data flow, CAD file transfer, post-processors). CAM for sculptured surfaces (machining region and process types, computation of toolpaths). Process plan automation (variant and generative process plans, feature based reasoning). Robotic applications in manufacturing processes (kinematics, on and off-line programming for serving a machine tool). Laser-based CNC machine tool metrology (principles and implementation).

Laboratory exercises: 1-Programming of a turning center. 2-Programming of a machining center 3-CAM-based programming. 4-Industrial robot programming.
