Machine tool main spindle performance models |
|
Topic |
The project investigates the main spindle of material removal machine tools with two aims. First, to draw up comprehensive specifications based on causal models that will stem from analysis of the main spindle system. The models will comprise the basic variables which are considered in design and operation control, indicatively: main dimensions, manufacturing process cycle, i.e. macroscopic pattern of variation of forces with time, which also takes into account workpiece material, geometry etc., rotational speed, acceleration and deceleration etc. Second, to draw up testing specifications for determining spindle system performance based on the analysis and modelling results |

Novel Virtual Reality Support Systems |
|
Topic |
The project aims at developing tools and techniques for the integration of intelligence in virtual reality environments, especially focusing in the study of Manufacturing Systems. The main subject is the development of a remote control model of the (visual) virtual world based on smart objects for applications where the accuracy of the representation of the form of the objects in the virtual world is rather important. That will be achieved by integrating kinematics, dynamics, state transitions, and logical models into the virtual world, which will be triggered, when required, by intelligent rules of behavior of the objects. Particular emphasis will be given on the standardization and the expansion of the “behavior” through XML/X3D. |

Press for olive oil production using cold pressing |
|
Topic |
The main research hypothesis is that cold pressing in multiple stages can produce olive oil with acceptable production rate and quality characteristics superior to those of olive oil produced with centrifuging decanters. The main objective of the NTUA research team is – first to study and design a suitable hydraulic press using multiple press filters, including its manufacturing process plan and – second to create a computer numerical control model for the pressing process and to implement it on an industrial PC / PLC for this press. |

Bending order optimization and tool position metrology in CNC press brakes |
|
Topic |
The project aims to improve CNC press brakes in two ways : First, by securing better tool alignement using a laser system in alternative configurations. Second, by developing a new method and accompanying software for selecting the best process plan, i.e. bend sequence required in order to process a part on a press brake as well as tools required. |

Intelligent collaborative web supported configuration of manufacturing systems |
|
Topic |
The project develops a methodology supported by software for preliminary design of manufacturing systems, akin to the concept of Virtual Factory. Knowledge bases with rules used in designing such manufacturing systems will support the creation and configuration of simplified models in VRML or X3D, so that knowledge and geometry can be accessible through the web. |

Concurrent product-manufacturing system design for meteorological masts, anemometers and wind vanes within wind power applications |
|
Topic |
A general methodology for product and manufacturing process design, based on concurrency principles (concurrent product-process design). A detailed specification of the manufacturing system needed for producing mechanical parts of anemometers, wind vanes and meteorological masts, and assembling them, so that their production in Greece becomes viable. An improvement of anemometer, wind vane and mast design, so that these respond better than existing designs to harsh weather conditions, such as those prevailing at high altitude in winter. |
