Terms of Reference of Task Force 6.1.5

In future years, terrestrial laser scanning will become a significant technique for the collection of geospatial data. This Task Force within Working Group 6.1 of FIG Commission 6 aims to promote the development of remote engineering survey practice, analysis and research for terrestrial laser scanning technology.

The goal of the Task Force is to promote the acceptance of terrestrial laser scanning as a recognised tool for spatial data capture for engineering projects, provide exchange of knowledge, experience and expertise for world class research in the field of terrestrial laser scanning, and connect with related groups of international organizations (e.g. ISPRS, ISM).

This Task Force is of interest to many professionals and researchers alike. Amongst innumerable potential applications, terrestrial laser scanning has the potential to become a valuable tool in the areas of survey engineering, mine engineering, architecture and heritage management.
