Agios Petros – Dionyssos Weather Station
June 19 temperature fluctuations at Agios Petros-Dionyssos
weather station
caused by downhill winds.
June 19 was a very hot day for the whole of Greece.
Temperature was rising from early in the morning in whole the Attiki-Greater Athens region. Between 14:00 & 15:00, temperatures were around 36-37 Celsius in most of the regions weather stations, with Kifissia Weather Station showing a maximum of 37.3 around 15:00.
At the same time "Agios Petros-Dionyssos weather station" was "burned" from extremely hot WSW winds which they not only bring the already heated air from inside Athens region, but heated even more as they were downhill from Penteli's mountain peaks. As a result, temperature was at 39.2 Celsius at 14:30.
At around 15:00, winds shifted from WSW to ESE, at the area of Agios Petros. This caused a sudden and dramatic temperature drop of more than 6 degrees Celsius in less than 30 minutes, leaving temperature between 33 & 34 degrees for the rest of the sunlight hours.
The station's diagrams below, show in every detail what exactly happened.
This wind shift did not only influenced temperature but also humidity.
The very dry downhill winds dropped humidity at 20%, but after 15:00 and the wind change humidity rose to 35% as every direction with the East component in it at Agios Petros, is coming from Marathon Bay causing humidity to rise.
