Research Fields of Interest:

Mechanics and Physics of polymers and polymeric composite materials. More specifically: study of the thermomechanical behaviour and its relationship to the structure of a variety of polymeric materials, thermosettings (epoxy resins, polyurethanes), thermoplastics (polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate, polycarbonate), liquid crystalline polymers (in situ composites) , semicrystalline materials (linear low density polyethylenes, polypropylene). Experimental study and constitutive description of vulcanized elastomers, (pure and reinforced with carbon black). Experimental and theoretical study of nonlinear viscoelasticity (stress relaxation, creep, monotonic loading) for various material types. Experimental and theoretical study of plastic behaviour (yield, strain softening, strain hardening, rate effect) of amorphous glassy polymers. Experimental and theoretical description of polymeric composites (particulate, unidirectional fiber composites). Constitutive laws for strain hardening. Preparation and experimental work on polymeric nanocomposites (polyethylene and polystyrene silica nanocomposites). Recent research on polycyanurate-cloisite nanocomposites, the effect of nanoparticles on α, β, γ relaxations, and development of a micromechanics model for the description of the reinforcing effect of nanoparticles. Experimental and theoretical study of biodegradable polymers and their nanocomposites, with various types of nanofillers (particles or clays). Study of the effect of ageing parameters, such as temperature, humidity and time of exposure, on their mechanical performance.
